10 Refreshing Detox Waters

Feel like you need a good detox ? In case you don’t feel like you have the time to make a detox smoothie, why not make detox water instead? Get a natural detox with this list of detox water recipes.

What is detox water ? Detox water is your regular drinking water infused with a few simple ingredients that helps flush the toxins from your body better. It’s one great way to be healthier.

I try to drink the recommended 8-10 glasses of water per day but sometimes it can be hard. Why, you ask? Because I’m not really a big water drinker. I would normally go for drinks that has flavor in it like sodas and juices. I know water is so much better for me. So to help me get my daily recommended water intake, I resort to flavored water or detox water. With detox water drinks, not only are you getting all the water that you need and a detox, but it also helps flush fat out of the body. If that’s not enough reason to start drinking detox water, I’m not sure what is.

10 Refreshing Detox Waters

1. Lemon Water

This is a super easy detox water that only needs two ingredients, your freshly squeezed lemon and water. Drink it every morning for best results! (Read: 26 Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water)

I don’t know what you are using for squeezing the lemons but I use similar to this lemon reamer I got at Ikea years ago. It’s cheap and there is nothing to break (mine is plastic too). It’s perfect for getting a little bit of fresh lemon juice out for a salad dressing, fish or lemon water. Easy to clean too – just rinse right away. This lemon juicer also looks good and might be better than mine because it catches the seeds. I can’t stand expensive complicated kitchen tools that are a product of smart marketing brains.

Lemon Water

Ingredients

  •     1/2 lemon
  •     1/4 cup cold water
  •     1/3 cup boiling water

Instructions

In a glass, squeeze lemon juice with lemon reamer; discard seeds if necessary. This lemon juicer also looks good and might be better than mine because it catches the seeds. Add water, stir and drink while warm

Notes

To make water warm, I usually mix boiling water from the kettle (I hope you have one?!) and fridge filtered water. Another option is to turn off kettle before water reaches boiling. You just have to wait by the kettle and turn it off on time.

2. Belly Slimming Detox Water

A refreshing mix of cucumber, strawberry and basil. It will help you slim your belly in no time.

Belly Slimming Detox Water

Ingredients

  •     Ice
  •     Water
  •     3 Basil leaves roughly chopped
  •     1 strawberry sliced
  •     3 - 5 slices of cucumber

Instructions

  1.     Combine all the ingredients in a large glass
  2.     Let it sit for 5 minutes at least
  3.     Enjoy

3. Apple Cinnamon Detox Water

Get the benefits of anti-oxidants and a healthy blood sugar while flushing the toxins from your body with this recipe.

Apple Cinnamon Detox Water

Ingredients

  •     2 organic apples
  •     2 cinnamon sticks (food grade)
  •     water
  •     ice if you want

Instructions

  1.     Cute the apples into large chunks. Be sure you leave the skin on.
  2.     Fill a Mason jar with chunks of apple, add 1 cinnamon stick and fill with water.
  3.     Let sit overnight in the refrigerator.
  4.     Serve over ice if you want or drink as is.

Notes

To save money, be certain to buy the cinnamon sticks in bulk rather than in the tiny jars from the grocery store.

4. Skinny Detox Water

Kick start your metabolism with this easy to make detox recipe.

Skinny Detox Water

Ingredients

  •     Lemon ( Lemons are natural energizers plus it kick starts that metabolism )
  •     Lime ( natural energizers helps your metabolism )
  •     Grapefruit - ( natural energizers with a bit of sweetness)

  •     Fresh Mint ( Helps your breath and helps you tummy work better)
  •     Ice
  •     Water

Instructions

  1.     In a glass – combine water and ice ( about ¾th of the glass)
  2.     Add lemon, lime, grapefruit, cucumber and mint till the drink is full
  3.     For my mason jar I used 2 full slices of lemon, 1 slice of grapefruit, 2 small slices of lime ,3 slices of cucumber and 6 mint leaves

5. Chia Detox Water

Get your daily dose of fiber and calcium from this amazing detox drink.

Chia Detox Water

Ingredients

  •     1 - 12oz glass of water
  •     1 Tablespoon Chia seeds
  •     Juice from 1 lime
  •     1/4 teaspoon agave nectar

Instructions

  1.     Fill a glass jar with a lid with drinking water
  2.     Add chia seeds to water. Place lid on the jar and shake well. Let set for 10 minutes

6. Flat Belly Raspberry Lemon Detox Water

Supercharge your body with the nutrients it needs by drinking this delicious flavor-infused water

Flat Belly Raspberry Lemon Detox Water

Ingredients

  • 2 cups organic raspberries
  • 8 cups (64 ounces) spring or filtered water
  • 1 large organic lemon—cut into ½- inch slices
  • 2 dried Medjool dates (optional but adds nice sweetness to the water)
  • 1 drop lemon essential oil-optional
  • 1 gallon clean glass jar with lid (here’s a good option)

 Instructions

  1. Place raspberries into the bottom of your jar. Add the dates if using then layer the lemon slices on top. Pour water into jar and place lid on top.
  2. Place water into the refrigerator and let infuse for 1 hour. Remove the lemon slices and squeeze their juice into the infused raspberry lemon water. I like to remove the lemon slices after 1 hour so the water doesn’t get too bitter from the rinds.
  3. Add the lemon essential oil drop into the jar. Stir the water with a spoon, cover with a lid and put water back into the refrigerator overnight for the best flavor.   You can leave the raspberries and dates in the infused water for up to 2 days before you need to strain them out of the water.  You can eat or compost the raspberries and dates rather than just throwing them away. Most of the flavor will be extracted from the raspberries but you can still add them into a smoothie with the dates and other fruits and veggies. Enjoy!

Note

I usually drink all or most of this water in one day so it never lasts  me for 2 days!

11 Snacks That Detox Your Body

1. Avocado

A great snack, high in fiber and fat – don’t fret, it’s the good type of fat! It’s advisable to consume avocado as is, without any other ingredients. Also, your best option is to go for organic avocados. This fruit contains a bunch of antioxidants and glutathione, a nutrient that can block up to 30 carcinogens and detox your liver. Avocados will help you eat less added sugars, thus help you lose weight, lower your BMI and metabolic syndrome risk.

2. Blueberries

Blueberries are nature’s medicine in the form of small fruit. They are considered to be natural aspirin and have antiviral properties. These round tasty berries reduce inflammation and lessen pain. They’re natural antibiotics and help prevent infections in the urinary tract by blocking out bacteria.

3. Grapefruit

This fruit is widely famous in diets because it helps the liver to burn fat. It’s a great snack that helps treat diabetes, strengthens the body fight against cancer and lowers cholesterol. Not to mention that it works wonders for people suffering from stomach ulcers and gum disease. Another benefit of grapefruit is that it helps prevent strokes and the apparition of metabolic syndrome.

4. Asparagus

Asparagus not only helps you detox your body, but it also helps you stay young. It also helps with liver drainage and reduces the risk of dying from breast cancer. It’s a tasty vegetable that helps with all forms of inflammations and it’s also known to maintain a healthy heart.

5. Pineapple

Pineapples are one of the tastiest snacks you can get your hands on. Not only do they taste amazing, but they also help with digestion and colon cleansing thanks to a digestive enzyme it contains. This enzyme called bromelain can also help balance blood coagulation, reduce inflammation and the growth of certain tumors.

6. Green smoothie

Green smoothies contain a variety of healthy, green, fresh vegetables. They are extremely helpful with digestion, bloating, allergies, constipation, indigestion, weight issues and obesity. Moreover, they can reestablish a person’s energy levels, improve brain function, alleviate headaches, chronic pain, insomnia and infections. (Read: Weight Loss with Green Smoothies)

7. Apples

Great snacks that contain phytochemicals like flavonoids, D-Glucarate and terpenoids. These are vital for when you detox your body. Phlorizin is one flavonoid that helps with bile stimulation, thus helping the liver eliminate toxins. Apples also support the body to get rid of additive and metals that we ingest from regular food consumption.

8. Almonds

Almonds are tasty snacks, high in fiber and rich in protein that help remove bowel impurities and balance sugar levels in your blood. They’re filled with vitamins like calcium, magnesium and vitamin E. Not to mention they’re easy to consume anywhere, so you have no excuse for not eating a healthy snack at work.

9. Watermelon

Watermelon helps the body get alkalinized, while having diuretic effects. Consuming watermelon will make you use the loo a lot more often, but eliminating high amounts of urine means ridding your body of more toxins. Watermelon contains a high amount of citrulline, which removes ammonia from your body. It also contains arginine that regulates blood flow. Watermelon also helps reduce inflammation and prevents wrinkles because of its high levels of lycopene. (Read: 9 Best Summer Foods for Weight Loss)

10. Green tea

High in antioxidants, this tea is great with any diet and detox as it identifies and kills free radicals in your body. Green tea can be considered a snack in some ways because you can drink it instead of soda or pre-packaged juices. It also has diuretic effects and it can help lower blood sugar levels. OZ 3 Day Detox Cleanse

That's right folks, this self-proclaimed carboholic and sweet-tooth queen made it through the Dr. Oz 3-day detox! I ran across it on my Pinterest feed and decided then and there that I was going to try it. Not because I was looking to lose weight, but rather because I just felt...ick.

After over-indulging during the holidays (I gained back 8 pounds, y'all) I needed to jump start my system. I truly felt like I needed to cleanse my body and rid it of all the processed junk I loaded up on.

I've seen those lemon juice, honey and cayenne pepper detox plans. And I have heard of a few others that last 7-10 days. So why the Dr. Oz detox?

It's pretty simple really. I wanted to set a realistic goal. I figured 3 days was do-able, and with nutrient-packed ingredients like spinach, raspberries and almond butter it was much more appealing than a nutrient-starved plan like the honey/lemon/pepper drink. Plus, there is a different shake for breakfast, lunch and dinner so you don't feel like you are forcing down the same thing meal after meal.

OZ 3 Day Detox Cleanse

Q. Was it hard?
A. Surprisingly, even for a diet drop out like myself, I found this quite easy. Perhaps it was the short timeline, or maybe it was that the drinks were actually tasty. Either way, I found this plan pretty simple.

Q. Was it difficult to find the ingredients?
A. I have slowly been trying to be more conscious about my grocery habits, focusing on purchasing more from the "outer aisles" and less from the "middle aisles" (the process stuff). With that said I've never been one of those holistic naturopaths so I have only ventured down those 2 aisles with the cage-free, animal by-product free, health-nut products as a cut-through from the back of the store to the front. That is until I had to buy the stuff for this detox. I tried to look as natural as possible (pun intended) as I shopped for Coconut Oil and Flax Seed. And, I actually found it quite fun to explore all these health-related products. Did you know my local grocery store has a machine where you can grind your own almond or peanut butter? How cool!

But anyway, I was able to find everything at my regular old local HEB grocery store. If you live in an area where your regular grocer may not be as robust as this, I am sure everything can be purchased at a health food store or "natural" grocery chain like Sprouts or Whole Foods.

Q. How much was it?
A. I'll be honest, it wasn't cheap. I saved my receipt to add up what I purchased for the detox and the grand total was $92.43. I'll break it out for you below so you can see exactly what is needed. By the way, I buy organic for most of my produce...at the very least, the ones on this list. Oh, and I already had a few things like the green tea and the epsom salt...so you'll want to add a few more bucks to this...

  • Kale - {two containers @ 2.97ea} - $5.94
  • Spinach - {1 container} - $3.98
  • Bananas - {3 lbs} - $1.57
  • Raspberries - {three 6oz containers @ 3.98ea} - $11.94
  • Mango - {I purchased a bag of frozen chunks as I thought it would be easier} - $1.95
  • Cucumbers - {3 small} - $1.86
  • Coconut Oil - {Nature's Way, 16oz} - $9.99 on sale!
  • Ground Flax Seed - {16 oz} - $3.49
  • Almond Butter - {16 oz} - $8.47
  • Stevia - {I bought the little packets...you need 1 tsp/day which ended being 9 total packets} - $2.52
  • Coconut Water - {Zico, two liters @ 3.99ea} - $7.98 (only needed 1 liter!)
  • Almond Milk - {Blue Diamond, Unsweetened Vanilla, 1 qt} - $2.00
  • Cayenne Pepper {smallest spice shaker} - $1.99
  • Blueberries - {2 pints @ 3.77ea} - $7.54
  • Limes - {2ct} - $.40
  • Granny Smith apples - {4ct} - $1.77
  • Pineapple chunks - {I bought the pre-cut chunks from the produce dept, 20 oz} - $4.68
  • Lavender Oil - {for the baths} - $6.39
  • Probiotic Water - {I drank this in place of taking a multi-vitamin and probiotic pill} - $4.49
  • Celery - $1.20
GRAND TOTAL = $92.43...Yowzers...

But when you think of it as the cost of all meals and snacks that you'll consume for 3 whole days, it doesn't seem too far fetched. That'd be $30/day or $10/meal.

Q. Were they easy to make?
A. Yes! I splurged a bit and bought a $30 Oster My Blend personal blender which ended up being the perfect complement to this detox. It blended even the large chunks (that I was afraid my ancient blender would not) and did it all in a to-go type container that you simply flip over, unscrew the blender blade and screw on a sipper top. It was worth every penny!

Q. Were you hungry throughout the day?
A. I can honestly say I was not. Like, at all. The shakes were completely satisfying and kept me going until it was time for my next one. I doubted those who said the same when I read reviews online prior to starting. But it was true!

Q. How did they taste?
A. Surprisingly, I liked all of them. The breakfast one was definitely the best. And the lunch a close 2nd even though most of the reviews I read said it was horrible and hard to choke down. I did not find that to be the case. The dinner one was the most...how shall I say it...interesting in flavor. But even so, it was not bad. I was pleasantly surprised.

Q. How did they make you feel?
A. After day 1 I felt great. I had energy, I was still gung-ho. Day 2 was a little more difficult, I'll admit. I so badly wanted to just chew something. So I'd pop a piece of gum and be good. I did cheat a little that afternoon with a nibble of my son's nutri-grain bar (like, the smallest nibble ever), but then I felt extremely guilty and just plain disappointed in myself so it was easy to get back on track. Oh yeah, and I ate some broccoli that night, but it is a green veggie so I let that slide. By day 3, like any test of will-power, I was just ready for it to be over with. However I always woke up looking forward to the breakfast shake so that helped a little. After it was all said and done I seriously felt SO good. My mind seemed clear, my belly pooch seemed flatter and I just felt refreshed.

Q. Did it "clean you out"?
A. Not like I was expecting. If you are wondering if I spent hours on the john throughout the detox, I didn't. And when I did it was due to the fact that I was peeing more than usual. So, I guess that's how the "toxins" were making their way out of my system.

Q. Did you lose weight?
A. That was by far the biggest perk. I lost 5 pounds by the end of day 3! And, I'm happy to say that even going back to a "regular" diet (albeit one on the lighter side), I've kept it off!

Q. What was the biggest challenge?
A. While I expected it to be giving up food in its "regular" form, it was actually the time it took to prep the shakes. As a stay-at-home mom with 3 kids, I was pulled away from the kitchen every now and then. Uninterrupted it would only probably take 5-10 minutes. However sometimes it took me 20-25.

Q. Would you do it again?
A. Absolutely! My goal is to do it once/month. And the best part is that some of the higher priced items like the almond butter, coconut oil and lavender do not have to be purchased again for a while - there is enough left over. In fact, I have incorporated the breakfast and lunch shakes in to my everyday diet, replacing one meal a day since I've been back from Chicago.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DETOX ELIXIR

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DETOX ELIXIR

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DETOX ELIXIR

Most people are determined to lose weight and make healthier choices in the upcoming days. I feel that making just plain good food choices is the best thing for long term overall health. But I don’t mind using real food ingredients to help my body along. There are a variety of ingredients that are excellent for improving gut health. Used individually they aid the body greatly in many ways. Used together they create a power house shot to help set your body straight!

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DETOX ELIXIR INGREDIENTS

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice (about 1-2 wedges)
  • 1 Tbsp raw honey
  • ¼ tsp ginger
  • Dash cayenne pepper (seriously just a dash!)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Mix ingredients in a glass or small jar and add about an ounce of warm water. Drink all at once before eating in the morning.

Read: How to detox in 3 days

ADDITIONAL RECIPE NOTES

Drinking in the morning will allow you to absorb the nutrients quickly and get your digestive system moving.

I find that the flavors of these ingredients are a little hard to swallow, which is why I like to take it all at once. Warm water will also make it easier to drink and will help melt the honey a little so it mixes in well. However, if you are a sipper and can handle the flavors better than me, fill your glass and enjoy!

You could also triple or increase the recipe to make a batch that lasts a few days. Prepping it ahead makes it readily available and helps you to be sure to drink it consistently. Make sure and store it in the refrigerator if you make a large batch. The ACV and fresh lemon need to be refrigerated.

If you’re intimidated by the thought of drinking apple cider vinegar with a dash of cayenne, don’t be scared! Try it for a week and see how you feel. You may be surprised at the improvement to your health, just by this one simple elixir since these ingredients have more health benefits than just digestive. You may find that you have clearer, brighter skin, a stronger immune system and even more energy!

If you really want to jump start your system on a detox, take this before every meal for a few weeks. Then cut back to just before breakfast.

For longer-term, daily routine, keep it up in the mornings. Personally, I find that very doable for my season of life.

There’s nothing better than just feeling well, and making an apple cider vinegar detox elixir is a great small step to take for better health!

The Colorful Detox Drink

The Colorful Detox Drink

Ingredients:

    1 Bell Pepper
    3 Carrots
    1 Medium Cucumber
    Half a Lemon
    1 Apple

Simply juice all of the ingredients and drink fast, before the antioxidants get destroyed! This detox drink contains large amounts of vitamin c, vitamin a, a nice amount of minerals, vital for a healthy skin & powerful fat and toxin-flushing antioxidants, contained in the apple and lemon. It does taste a bit strange, but is definitely not unpleasant. Drinking a glass or two a day is extremely effective for cleansing your liver, improving your skin complexion and generally improving your health & energy levels.

The Green Tea Citrus Drink

The Green Tea Citrus Drink

Another juice that has amazing detox power!

Ingredients:

Half a cup of green tea, cooled down
The Juice of Half a Lemon
    1 Banana Blended In

This is a bit more difficult to prepare, as it requires juicing, blending AND tea brewing! But it’s worth it – the EGCG in green tea acts together with the lemon juice to rapidly detoxify your body. EGCG is absorbed much, much better in an acidic environment and when combined with minerals (the potassium from the banana). Another huge benefits is that the juice tastes very nice – you can almost get addicted to it.

The Golden Liver-Flushing Drink

The Golden Liver-Flushing Drink

Ingredients:

    Half a teaspoon of turmeric
    A bit of ginger
The Juice of half a lemon
    Half a cup of water

This juice not only flushes toxins from your liver, but it also prevents gallstones and cleans your bowels. It also settles down your stomach after a big meal. Turmeric is a very effective liver-detoxifying agent and is used as a hangover remedy in some countries. Again, combining it with lemon juice makes it even more effective. Unfortunately, this drink doesn’t taste that well. You can definitely improve it’s taste by adding a banana, but don’t add too much, as the sugar from the banana will slow down the cleansing action of the turmeric.

8 Ways To Detox Your Body

8 Ways To Detox Your Body

When the season changes from summer to fall our body transitions from a faster metabolism to a slower one in order to save energy to get though the long winter. A fall detox is special because you want to cleanse the toxins that slow down your body and make it vulnerable to sickness while speeding up your metabolism for the winter months to avoid any winter weight gain. There are 8 simple ways to detox for fall, and you can repeat this detox at any point during the winter months to boost immunity and metabolism.

8 Ways To Detox Your Body

Greens: Eating greens like kale, broccoli, cabbage and cucumbers is like absorbing sunshine; it keeps your body happy all winter long when sunshine is scarce. Eating green also helps to regulate your body’s systems, removes toxins from the body, and boots immunity.

Sweet vegetables: Pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots and beets are all great choices for a fall detox. These seasonal vegetables cut the cravings for chocolate and sweets that we feel in the winter. Add them to your menu to avoid cravings altogether! The beta-carotene and vitamin A also boost immunity and protect your skin and eyes from damage.

Whole Grains: To really kick your detox into high gear, stick to grains in their whole form and avoid all flours and foods that are separated, like wheat germ or bran. When you eat grains in their whole form like barley, oats, wheat berries, quinoa, or millet, they work like sponges in the body. The soluble fiber absorbs cholesterol and the releasing toxins to remove them from the body.

Water: The winter is very drying on the skin, which is our biggest organ. To protect your skin and to wash out all of the releasing toxins, it is vital to drink 2-3 liters of water a day. This includes decaffeinated, unsweetened teas or flavored water without sugar.

Movement: Sweat is the best way to warm up the body to increase metabolism as well as excrete all the junk you are detoxing. 30-60 minutes of sweat-inducing exercise is best. This can be a killer Pilates class or a heart busting cardio routine. Mix it up and have fun! As long as you are sweating, you are detoxifying your body. In the winter, begin your yoga or Pilates routine in sweat pants and a sweater until your body warms up, then strip off the layers while you complete the workout.

Sugar: Avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners while detoxing. These are one of the greatest forms of toxins you are exposed to every day. Stick to 2 tablespoons total of agave nectar or Stevia during your detox.

Dairy: When the weather cools down, reduce your dairy intake to one cup a day at most to avoid excess mucus, and try to buy organic when possible to avoid the antibiotics. During the detox, avoid dairy and use almond milk instead.

Oils: Stick to olive oil during the detox to lubricate your body. The Omega-3 fat enhances your body’s fat burning abilities.

Healthy Peppermint Grapefruit Detox

Healthy Peppermint Grapefruit Detox Water Recipe

Healthy Peppermint Grapefruit Detox

This detox water has ingredients that will clean out your kidneys, eliminate bloating and help you to enjoy much healthier skin. It also aids in digestion. You need about ½ gallon of purified water, ½ lemon sliced, ½ lime sliced, ½ grapefruit sliced (note that you can also substitute or add oranges if you want), 1 cup of sliced cucumber with peels, 1 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger and a handful of fresh peppermint leaves. Just add all of the ingredients into a pitcher and cover with ice. Refrigerate for at least a couple of hours before serving and discard after 24 hours as the citrus fruits tend to get a little mushy.
